Last week at Cisco’s annual partner conference – this year held virtually – Comstor won a number of awards for business performance as a Cisco business partner across EMEA. The wins were Distributor of the Year awards for each of the UK, Netherlands and Denmark teams in the North region and Middle East for MEA, and Social Impact Partner of the Year Award for Germany. We talked to Willem de Haan, SVP Comstor International, about what these prestigious awards mean to him and his team.

You could ask why these awards matter – after all, they are just a piece of glass. But in reality, they matter a lot! Being honoured with these awards by Cisco is recognition of all the hard work we have put into our business to support the vendor and our partners through our laser focus, value-add offerings and sales success.

It’s a tremendous achievement and testament to the dedication of our teams over the last 12 months. The win for Middle East and Africa is the first time the ME team has won the award and winning Distributor of the Year EMEAR – North in the Nordic team’s first year of business are both fantastic achievements.

I believe we won for a number of reasons. Firstly, we simply outperformed the competition. We are growing year on year, especially in growth areas such as security. Secondly, there is no doubt in my mind that teamwork underpins our success. During COVID-19, we pulled together as a team and worked closely with Cisco to support the channel through the crisis.

Last but not least we have very strong relationships with our partners. We’re 100% committed to delivering an exceptional customer experience through innovative solutions and services, and helping them grow through the adoption of Cisco’s cloud technologies, software, security and collaboration solutions.

Reflecting on the last 12 months we have had some great wins. But what made the greatest impression was the work ethic and commitment of the entire Westcon-Comstor team during COVID-19. Our one-and-only aim throughout has been to help partners through these difficult times so we are all in a better place to do business together as the market recovers.

In particular I’m very proud of our Stay Safe, Stay Connected campaign launched at the beginning of the pandemic. Under the guidance of our central team, every country was in position to offer advice and solution offerings to the channel. This included flexible financing options to help businesses continue to operate during difficult circumstances and get the most value out of their Cisco solutions.

Looking ahead to 2021, the theme of this year’s awards couldn’t be more appropriate: Future Ready. In some ways, this reflects how Comstor and Cisco have always been at the leading edge of the ever-changing IT landscape. But never before have we faced so much uncertainty and change.

Couple this with end users’ evolving needs, new ways of working and the growing adoption of cloud, recurring offers and security, and you begin to appreciate the significance of what being ‘future ready’ means: preparing partners to grow in 2021 and beyond.
